RECAP: WEEK TWO, NIGHT ONE

Week two of the 2020 CCL season started with a four game stream, showcasing Mississippi State vs. Concord Gray, Liberty Navy vs. Georgia Southern, University of Tennessee Knoxville, and Grand Canyon University vs. Grossmont Community College. Match One: Mississippi State vs. Concord Gray Map one of the Mississippi State vs Concord Gray game was hardpoint on Gun Runner and Mississippi State started off hot to take the early lead and never let Concord Gray hold a hill for very long, as Mississippi State won map one 250-145. Map two then went over to search and destroy on Arklov Peak. Mississippi State dominated the first five rounds and wanted to finish the game in the next round to win 6-0, but Concord Gray was able to take round six but Mississippi State won map seven right after that thanks to a three piece grenade by Iced to take the 2-0 series lead. Game three was next with domination on Hackney Yard and Concord Gray had the lead in the first half, but Mississippi State finished strong and finished round one up 103-83. The second half was not very close, as Mississippi State kept their foot on the gas and won the game 216-150 and the series 3-0. Match Two: Liberty Navy vs. Georgia Southern Match two was between Liberty Navy and Georgia Southern with map one being Ramazza hardpoint. Georgia Southern came out hot and took map one 250-147. Map two was then search and destroy on Gun Runner and Georgia Southern again came out on fire winning four straight rounds before Liberty Navy was able to fire back and win a round. The teams then traded a round each before Georgia Southern won 6-2. The third map of the series was domination on Hackney Yard, and Georgia Southern for the third map in a row came out firing on all cylinders. They finished the first half up 125-61, and then kept it going into the second half to win 253-124 and close out the series 3-0. Match Three: UTK vs. Ole Miss Red The third match of the night was University of Tennessee Knoxville versus Ole Miss Red. Map one was hardpoint on Ramazza and both teams played really well, but a few minor mistakes caused Ole Miss Red to win the game 250-205. Map two was then search and destroy on Piccadilly and after trading rounds one and two, UTK won the next three to go up 4-1. Ole Miss Red then won the next two, but UTK won the next round thanks to a three piece by Slim and then the next one to win 6-3 and tie the series 1-1. Map three was then domination on Hackney Yard and after a close first half, UTK held the lead 84-83 at halftime. The second half was not as close, as Ole Miss Red ran away with it and won 196-150 and take a 2-1 series lead. Map four was hardpoint on Hackney Yard, and both teams looked like they had a chance to win as they were tied 230-230 at the end, but Ole Miss Red pulled it off and won 250-234 and took the series 3-1. Match Four: GCU vs. GCC The fourth match of the night was between Grand Canyon University and Grossmont Community College. The first map, hardpoint on St. Petrograd, was played off stream, and GCC won the map 250-114. The second map was then search and destroy on Gun Runner, and after each team traded offensive rounds in the first four rounds, GCC was able to win the next four maps, including a round won by a 1v3 by Impostahh, to win map two 6-2. The third map of the series was domination on Gun Runner, and GCU looked great the whole first half. They were able to hold the B and C flags for most of the half, and were up 110-87. The second half was really similar with GCU again holding the B flag really well, and winning the game 197-176 and forcing a game four, which was hardpoint on Gun Runner. GCC started the game strong, scoring 101 points in the first two hills, and then kept it going winning the game 250-151 and finishing the series 3-1.
