RECAP: WEEK FIVE, NIGHT ONE

02.25.2020 // By: Trevor Ivey

Match One: #5 Rutgers Scarlet (7-1) vs. #18 Maryland (6-2) The first match of the night saw Rutgers Scarlet take on Maryland. Map one was hardpoint on Ahzir Cave, where Rutgers Scarlet took control of the map early and looked dominant. They were up 214-133 before Maryland started clawing their way back, but it was too little too late as Rutgers Scarlet won map one 250-195. The second map was then search and destroy on Gun Runner, and after the first round where Thanatos from Maryland was able to sneak off a ninja defuse, Rutgers Scarlet took control and won the next five rounds very convincingly. Maryland finally was able to take another two rounds but ultimately fell short and lost 6-3. Map three was domination on Gun Runner again, and the first half ended with a score of 96-82 favoring Rutgers Scarlet. The second half was again very close and it came down to the last minute, where Maryland had the A flag and lost control of the B flag, and instead of fighting through a set up Rutgers Scarlet team, Maryland sent three players to C and two players to B and were able to win over both flags to take complete control and win the map 185-174 to force a game four. The game four was then hardpoint on Hackney Yard, and Rutgers Scarlet pushed game three out of their memory, and rolled over Maryland winning 250-105 and finished out the series 3-1. Match Two: South Arkansas University Blue (3-5) vs. Concord Gray (2-6) The second match of the night was SAU Blue vs. Concord Gray. The first map was Ahzir Cave harpoint, and it seemed like whichever team took early control of a hill, would control it for the full 60 seconds. Concord Gray ultimately finished the map winning 250-200. The second map was then Arklove Peak search and destroy. SAU Blue did really well to get themselves one round away and were up 5-2 before Concord Gray won three straight rounds to force a round 11, but then SAU Blue called for a new strategy and put away the sniper to run straight at Concord Gray and take them by surprise to win the game 6-1 and tie up the series 1-1. Map three was then domination on Gun Runner, and SAU Blue did a great job of holding map control, and finished the first half up 116-82. While Concord Gray did a better job in the second half to push forward on the map, it wasn’t enough as SAU Blue won 196-85 and went up 2-1 in the series. The fourth map of the series was the hardpoint on Hackney Yard, and Concord maroon did a great job of rotating and holding the ill when they were in it, and won the map 250-120 and forced a game five of search and destroy on Gun Runner. After SAU Blue took an early 4-1 lead, Concord Maroon finally won another round and then it looked like they were going to win another round, but DavyJones was able to ninja defuse the bomb to give SAU Blue a 5-2 lead. Concord Maroon was able to win another round but SAU Blue won the game 6-3 and closed out the series 3-2.
