3-0s were the story of week 3 of College Call of Duty. However, there were some key matchups that took place. Some teams looked to turn heads, while others flexed their top tier talents.
St. Clair silences top 4 doubters
The St. Clair Saints entered their sixth CCL season with expectations higher than ever. Their high powered roster aims to improve on their third place finish from last year, and they certainly do not want second. Some Top 25 voters had the Saints ranked 5th or even as low as 6th after week two. Their first true test of the season came against #12 Akron, who had their own doubters to battle against. The first map of the series was Hacienda, a map that leans heavily on early rotations. The first hill was the closest Akron would get in the Hardpoint, as St. Clair went on an absolute rampage as they would secure the win 250-20. No, that is not a typo. The dominance continued with a 6-2 and 3-0 performance in the following two games. It is a victory that wasn’t necessarily surprising, but the method in which they did it certainly was.
As the week 5 division split approaches, the Saints look to keep the steady pace as they line up for tougher matches in the back half of the season.
We finish the night with another #SaintsCOD dub.

Army dominates in long standing rivalry match
CCL Caster, Dandro, said it best about this matchup - "it's a tale as old as time". If you don't follow collegiate football much, the Army-Navy Game spans back to 1890. We now have the pleasure of watching these two opponents go head-to-head in College Call of Duty ever since the 2021 Cold War season. Both teams came into this interservice rivalry coming off a tough prior two weeks. Army West Point came into the match at 1-2 and Navy came in at 0-3. Nonetheless, the entertainment provided on the CCL main stream was beautiful to watch.
The opening map was Skyline Hardpoint where Navy got as close as 97 to 129 but was never able to overcome the deficit and pressure put on by Colo of Army West Point. Colo posted a lobby-leading 36-22 performance with 4,138 damage and 29 non-traded kills. In map 2, Navy showed some life in the Search & Destroy on Hacienda hanging tough until the end behind Vengeance's 14-6 performance. However, they ultimately fell 4-6 in the map and 0-2 in the series. BamBam had a great game going 11-5 with 7 non-traded kills, 4 bomb plants and 1 defuse. The series then went to Protocol for Control where the Army Black Knights completed the 3-0 sweep with a 3-0 control victory behind the guns of, you guessed it, BamBam and Colo.
Unlike the collegiate football series between these two where Navy leads the series 63-55-7, the Army Black Knights are undefeated in College Call of Duty against their rivals.

uOttawa Garnet win a wild one
In a week full of 3-0 sweeps in both Northeast divisions, this matchup of two top 25 hopefuls went the distance. In Map 1 Hardpoint on Hacienda, the Temple Owls squad came out swinging to take out the Canadians from the University of Ottawa, 250-170. Temple Esports, a team some had ranked in their personal Top 25 in the beginning of the season, carried that momentum into map 2 on Hacienda Search & Destroy where they took the victory 6-4. However, before the Owls were able to get their brooms out for a sweep, uOttawa made a statement in Protocol Control winning 3-0. Game 4 featured a map we don't see too often in the CCL, Red Card. This hardpoint was scrappy and heart-wrenching, but the team from up north sent it to a game 5 after their 250-245 victory. With all the momentum and emotions up high, the final game on Protocol Search & Destroy capped the reverse sweep for uOttawa as they defeated Temple 6 to 3.
Marshall continuing development as season goes on
Marshall University faced off against Mars Hill University during Week 3 of the CCL. Marshall moved up four ranks to 21st in the top 25 in Week 2 while Mars Hill moved up one rank to 4th. Stewski joins the Marshall CoD roster replacing Alex Carr, but it remains to be seen if this roster change will help Marshall University climb the leaderboard. Marshall struggled to gain momentum during Vault Hardpoint and lost 147 to 250. Next up was Search and Destroy. After a short delay to the start of the map, Mars Hill won the SnD 6-2. After map one, it didn’t seem like the light was at the end of the tunnel for the Marshall squad, but they started to pick up some momentum in the SnD. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Mars Hill won the series 3-0 with a 3-1 win on Vault Control.

There is some history between two members of both schools. Jamie, former player for Concord University and now Director of Mars Hill Esports, used to be teammates with Paraylxsis. Jamie said it brings a feeling of nostalgia seeing his team play his Alma Mater and former teammates.
“It’s always fun to have matches vs them (the Concord boys). We’ve played Concord a few different times, have played Chase (UTC) a few times, this was the first time having the chance to play vs Niko though,” said Jamie.
Even though the rivalry is fierce, he is happy to see the passion is still alive in some of his former teammates.
“I was the oldest on the Concord team, so only got to experience 2 years with them but the bond we all grew was super special, and it’s awesome to see them still thriving and finishing their playing careers,” expressed Jamie.
With Week 4 on the horizon, two questions remain. Does the addition of Stewski keep Marshall University in the Top 25? Can Mars Hill University climb the ranks to number one? Keep up to date on all things CCL to find out.
